how do I get work as a stunt performer?
Q. I have recently completed a 3 week stuntschool in Seattle (USA) I was wondering how to seek out work in the UK - Any advice and help would be great in getting my foot in the door of the stuntworld.

A. Check with the Guild or union what their requirements are to do stunt work. Usually there's a list of basics you have to be examined on by a qualified co-ordinator, which may include specialities (such as high falls, fire, stairs, etc). And they will also specify the relevant work experience which may count towards you 'test'.

How would Bruce Lee do in the UFC?
Q. I am upset after reading the past polls that presented this question. The answers were provided by Bruce Lee fans that were overly confident that he would be champ. They even claimed that he could beat guys like Hughes and Liddell. Yeah, Bruce Lee invented many of his own styles and was very quick, but at 135lb he doesnt even size up against the Lightweight 155b fighters who are the smallest in the UFC. You must remember that Bruce Lee was an actor and performer with limited mano y mano fighting skills. He could break boards and knock down stunt men but those type guys dont win belts in the UFC. Crush your enemies, magan, tao, big bank, frank the tank, Marc C, Jack Frost, and crafty, you have well thought out sound points . I am going to… [cont.]

A. He could be a great commentator for the UFC :) Let's be realistic, no 135lb will beat today's mma fighters on UFC or Pride, no matter how good you are you won't become champion, if Bruce Lee (at his peak and being alive) gains 20 lbs then he'd be a contender for the lightweights

Who else is excited about the re-release of "The Fall Guy"(circa 1981) on DVD in June?!?
Q. Remember? "Colt Seaver is a combination bounty hunter and stunt man. The series chronicles the adventures of a film stunt performer who moonlights as a bounty hunter when movie work is slow. He drives a big GMC truck with a eagle painted on it's hood. He chases after "bad guys" and returns them to the Los Angeles area. He has two companions, Howie (Douglas Barr) and Jodie (Heather Thomas). These two companions usually follow Colt in his adventures and sometimes they are on their own." (I can provide the lyrics to the theme song, if you'd like.) Well, I'm not the kind to kiss and tell, But I've been seen with Farrah. I'm never seen with anything less than a nine, so fine. Don't try this at home?......Then where?
Q. We all seen the disclaimer or been told before watching people perform stunts on their motorcycles, skateboards, bicycles, etc to not try the stunts at home...that they are performed by professionals in a controlled environment. Good advice? Surely sounds like great advice, BUT... Where and how do you think all these young motorcyclists, skateboarders and bicyclists learned how to perform all their stunts? There isn't exactly schools or a whole lot of designated places to learn stunts. All of the stunt performers you see weren't always professionalls, but learned by trial and error, bruised and broken bones learning to jump their bikes off ramps out in some open dirt track or sliding their skateboard off handrails and benches in a city… [cont.]

Do you think Hollywood doesn't do justice with Jackie Chan?
Q. While watching "The Bourne Ultimatum," it was hard to escape the influence of Jackie Chan on some of the moves performed by Matt Damon especially in the sequence where he is leaping from building to building, and jumping through open windows. Some may feel this kind of thing owes more to parkour the technique demonstrated in the French action movie "District B13" and in the opening sequence of "Casino Royale." You know, the seemingly unreal ability to climb up a wall or building in leaps and bounds. But I would suggest that Jackie Chan was doing that long before it became a street sport. A. You are absolutely correct with your analysis, he isn't given his due. I've seen supercop, condor and drunken master in addition to his more american-themed movies like rumble in the bronx. Hollywood has a history of passing over having asian leads in movies, which is why they always pair jackie up with someone instead of giving him his own movie. It's sad, because he's been busting his a$$ since the 70's. Bruce lee hit a similar wall when he first came to the states and was either relegated to sidekick status (Cato in the Green Hornet) or ignored altogether (He was supposed to star in the classic tv show Kung fu, but they ditched him for David Carridine because they didn't think America would respond well).

A. Amen. I'm a cheerleader and people underestimate us. I bet those "football players" that that guy was talking about couldn't do HALF the sh!t that we have to do. If football players are sooo tough why are they the ones slamming into each other on solid ground and wearing padded gear and we're the ones tossing girls 8+ feet in the air and they have nothing but the skirt on their waists. Shows who are the wimps and who is brave right? And if they think it's so easy why don't they try? HAHA. Yeah, let's see how easy they'll think it is then. People honestly have NOOO fcking clue how much we work and how extremely athletic you have to be do all of that. Average people off the street aren't as flexible as us, they cant back handspring, they… [cont.]

Q. I'm talking about the hard-core, competitive, daily 4 hours of intense practice, cheerleading . the one that involves extreme tumbling skills, exquisitely coordinated dances, exceptional stunting where amazing flexibility is a must and is beyond compare. i just dont get it. how is it not a sport ? is it because it doesnt include a ball ? then swimming, wrestling, or nascar isnt a sport either. is it because cheerleaders root on for another sport ? so whattt . besides we have our own "games" and our own "opponents" too. but they're called competitions and other cheereleading teams. its sad how some people only see one side of cheerleading. the ones who stay at the sidelines a scream "go team go!" well i guess i see why you would consider… [cont.]

A. Remember the film 'Borat'?
Q. Remember the film 'Borat' by the English actor and comedian Sacha Baron Cohen? Now this film was highly controversial because of the way he mocks people etc well he's gone one better, his new film(which the rights to supposedly cost $42.5 million!) 'Bruno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay Foreigner in a Mesh T-Shirt' promises to be even more raw nerve. He plays a gay fashion expert called 'Bruno' and he does all his usual stuff of taking the micky out of unsuspecting interviewees. I have taken this from wikipedia-"In the course of filming the movie, Cohen performed an interview with former Mossad agent Yossi Alpher and a Palestinian about the… [cont.]

Is anyone kind of sorry the writers' strike is over?
Q. Okay, it's good the writers are going back to work, and they were right about getting their share of their work show on the Internet and other new media. However, without them, some entertainers, particularly the late-night comedians, were forced to get really creative. In particular, Conan O'Brien shone with singing, backstage bits, exploring the studio, and weird stunts. Jay Leno spoke more to his audience, and brought on doctors to tell doctor jokes, clergypeople to tell priest/minister/rabbi jokes, and so on. Now it's back to the usual--unless the performers decide to keep some of that innovation going. What do you all think?

A. Hopefully they will see that their innovations were a hit, and they will continue them! I am not sorry that the strike is over, because now the things that I watch will FINALLY have new episodes. (House and Law&Order) I am sad that Heroes probably won't be on again (with new episodes) until the fall, I'll have forgotten what happened by then! I'm just happy that I won't have to rely on things like American Gladiator for "new" entertainment. I mean, aren't all of those more like repeats with different people anyway?

The Storyline We All Waited For But Never Came ?...?
Q. God rest his soul, Eddie Guerrero was one of the best in ring performers and entertainers in the wrestling industry. Amidst the storylines in the WWE at the time, it was very hard to establish a difference between what was real and what was fake. Eddie Guerrero just released his book "Cheating Death, Stealing Life" when the word hit all over the news of his untimely death. Now we know that real PR stunts had been used by the WWE before to make things more believable, even so today with the Matt / Jeff storyline about the car accident, and I was one that could not beleive the news. I was sad and mostly believed that he had passed, however - I read the rumours and thought maybe, just maybe, that he was still alive - residing in Mexico until… [cont.]
